Srinagar, Apr 7: SMC commissioner Dr G N Qasba on Saturday flagged off cross-country run organised by New Bonvivant School, Aali Masjid, Hawal road.
In the run around 500 students participated and the motive of the rally was to eradicate the menace of increasing social evils, particularly drug abuse among the youth in the society.
“Physical fitness is backbone of a sound mind so everyone, particularly youth, should put in extra efforts in this direction. Both the school authorities and parents have responsibility to keep a close tab on the youth to dissuade them from the social evils. Schools can play bigger role by imparting moral education,” said Dr Qasba.
Junaid Altaf of class 9 bagged first position in the race among the boys.
Muhammad Sayeed and Khalid Qayoom, both students of class 10, bagged
second and third position respectively.
Among the girls, Ifra, class 5 student bagged first position while Shazia class 7 and Muntaha class 7 finished second and third respectively.
